The Emerald Tablet Of Hermes Interpretation

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Alchemy

Hermes Trismegistus - The Emerald Tablet Of Hermes Interpretation
An Interpretation of The Emerald Tablet by William Hoper drawing on Jung's Synchronicity and Plato's Theory of Forms. In this article I explain the Emerald tablet, making clear as I do so the links between the tablet concepts and the works of Plato, Jung and others.
The Emerald Tablet is a text said to be the work of Hermes Trismegistus, "Hermes the Thrice-Great", a legendary Egyptian sage or God. However, modern historians have proved him to be a collection of unknown 200ADish writers who mixed ideas from Platonism, Stoicism, Judaism, Christianity, Persia, Egypt etc. The Hermitic writings were especially popular in the Renaissance and gave rise to Rosicrucianism. In the late 19th Century the writings enjoyed a revival under the "Order of The Golden Dawn" and the "Theosophical Society". For a while, many celebrities belonged to the Golden Dawn, eg William Butler Yeats, one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature. However, the drug taking hedonist Aleister Crowley brought the movement into considerable disrepute by associating it with occultism and 'black magic'.

The Masonic Offering a Gift for All Seasons (1854)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

John Perry, Paschal Donaldson - The Masonic Offering a Gift for All Seasons(1854)
Masonic literature—rich in all that pertains to the antiquity of the Order, its growth and maturity—while it affords much to illustrate the genial influence of its principles upon the domestic, and the social circle, has hitherto lacked that attractive form, so fitting for Gift Books, and which has been adopted with so much advantage by other social organizations. Almost every society and order, has its Souvenir, or Offering, or Annual ; and the idea associated with these caskets of choice literature, that which makes them valuable, is at once a principle and an inculcation of опт Order
The Editors of this volume have attempted to furnish a cluster from the field of thought and feeling cultivated under the broad sheen of our cherished institutions, that shall be agreeable to the taste of the fraternity. That they may not have made the most desirable selections in all cases is quite probtihlc, but they do not hesitate to commit their work to the friendly criticism of i hose to whom it is inscribed, nor do they entertain the fear that they have entirely failed in the enterprize to which they have applied their efforts.

The Masonic Trestle-Board (1846)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

Charles W. Moore, S. W. B. Carnegy - The Masonic Trestle-Board(1846)
This work has been prepared agreeably to a resolution of the National Masonic Convention, convened at Baltimore, Md., in May, 1843.
The Convention was composed of Delegates from a majority of all the Grand Lodges in the United States. They were assembled for the purpose of revising and
Erfecting a uniform system of Masonic Work and xtukes. As an important auxiliary in the attainment of the object of their appointment, they unanimously resolved " on the expediency of adopting a regularly authorized Trestle-Board," or Text-Book, for the use of the Lodges. A committee was appointed to carry this resolution into effect. The present work is the result of the deliberations of a majority of the committee. It was first submitted to the Fraternity in 1843, and is now irj тегу general use in the Lodges throughout the country, and adjacent British Provinces.
The Illustrations of the three degrees, and the ceremonies of the degree of Past Master, are given as they were collated and systematized, by Smith, Hutchinson, Preston, Calcott, Webb, Dalcho, and other Masonic authors. The present editors have, however, endeavored to improve the style of the composition, and to adapt the illustrations to the condition and requirements of the Fraternity in the United States.
A great amount of irrelevant and useless matter, with which our text-books are all more or less encumbered, has been rejected. Absurd and ridiculous pretensions are no more justifiable in societies than in individuals. Freemasonry requires only what fairly and honestly belongs to it. This will give it pre-eminence among all other Institutions of human origin. When its friends ask more than this, they ask more than sensible men are willing to concede.
The work is embellished with three fine engravings, representing the three carpets, illustrative of ancient Craft Masonry. The design of the second is new, as is also the arrangement of the first and third. They have commended themselves to the acceptance of the Brethren.
Such original matter has been introduced as was deemed essential to the general design of the work, and to the illustration of points in the ceremonies and history of the degrees, which might not otherwise be generally understood.
The pages of the present edition have been reduced in size, with a view to render the work more convenient for private use. Some unimportant changes have also been made in the arrangement of the matter; and a few omissions in the first edition, have been supplied. It is not presumed that the work is yet perfect, but it is believed to be sufficiently so for all practical purposes.
The great object of the publication is to facilitate the attainment, and to contribute to the preservation, of tjki-pohmity in the work of the Lodges. If it shall in any degree aid in accomplishing this, the important end proposed by the Convention, in ordering its publication, will nave been answered, and the fondest hopes of the committee realized.

The Masonic Vocal Manual (1859)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

Robt Macoy - The Masonic Vocal Manual(1859)
The object of the present volume is to furnish Lodges, Chapters, and Appropriate Ceremonials, with a complete Collection of Odes for all practical purposes. Great care has been used in the selection : all light and trifling pieces were rejected, and it is believed that nothing has been admitted but such as will tend to advance the dignity of the Order, and elevate the moral character of its members.
The tones of music breathing the " concord of sweet sounds," speak a language to the soul richer in meaning than words can express, and add an inspiring influence, in unison with the sublime ceremonies of the Order, to enliven the mind; to cheer the drooping spirit, and assist in promoting the reciprocal sentiments of Brotherly Love and Charity.
The tunes selected and accompanying each piece, are old and familiar; but may be changed, by those having a knowledge of music, to other and probably more appropriate airs.

A SYSTEM OF CARD MEMBERSHIP RECORD FOR MASONIC BODIES AND A SCHEME OF CLASSIFICATION FOR MASONIC BOOKS (1910)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

FRANK J. THOMPSON - A SYSTEM OF CARD MEMBERSHIP RECORD FOR MASONIC BODIES AND A SCHEME OF CLASSIFICATION FOR MASONIC BOOKS(1910)
Should we dedicate this pamphlet, or should it go into the world without godfather. These were the thoughts which catne upon us as we stood upon the brink of publication. However, when we look back upon the years in which we have served the Grand Masonic and Templar bodies of North Dakota, we cannot conceal the fact of the generous and progressive spirit which has actuated and tempered the members who compose the various grand bodies, and through whose kindness and liberality it has been made possible to place Masonry, in relation to its grand organizations, among the best and most progressive of the world; that in patience they have awaited the years for our membership records to be completed, and our library to assume proportions of which we have no reason to be ashamed. Therefore, to these brothers, this little work is fraternally dedicated.

NEW EDITION OF THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE OF FREEMASONRY (1890)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

EDWIN A. SHERMAN - NEW EDITION OF THE BRIEF HISTORY OF THE ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE OF FREEMASONRY(1890)
In presenting this "New Edition of a Brief History of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry" to his Brethren of the Craft, a few prefatory remarks the Author deems to be necessary at this time.
The first etiition preparetl by him was under tlie auspices of the Grand Consistory of the State of California in the monih of July, 1885, at which time he was its Deputy and Grand Lecturer as also the Deputy of 111. Bro. Charles F. Brown, 33°, one of the Active Inspectors-General for this State. Some fifteen hundred copies were then printed and distributed gratuitously among the Brethren of the A. & A. S. Rite in particular, and the Blue Lodges throughout the State of California in general, the Grand Consistory afterwards paying for the printing and the postage cost of distribution, but no compensation was made to the writer for the compiling of the work, which had been prepared after a great deal of time expended in reading and condensing of the history of the Rite for the object had in view. lieing printed only in pamphlet form, the most of the first edition was soon lost and destroyed.
Many of the Brethren having manifested their desire to have the same reproduced, the writer had already undertaken the task and it was well under way, when he was written to by the agent of publishers in the East, and solicited to prepare a portion of a new and large Masonic work of a more general and comprehensive character, which will soon make its appearance...

THE BOOK OF THE Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite OF FREEMASONRY (1914)

Категория: Книги » Secret Societies » Masonry

T. McCLENACHAN - THE BOOK OF THE Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite OF FREEMASONRY(1914)
The Volume now presented to the Masonic public assumes to itself no special originality ; but the apparent want of a complete and systematic hand-book for the assistance and instruction of those essaying the higher walks of Masonry, in the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, would seem to justify the humble ambition which the Collator of this volume has attempted. His personal experience, extending through a period of years, has taught him the necessity of some complete Monitor whereby the beauty and sublimity of the Rite could be more thoroughly and justly rendered.
Deferring, as he does, with all respect to those who have preceded him in similar efforts, he humbly trusts that if he has not added anything of value, interest, or importance to the beautiful ritual of the Rite, that he may not be accused of detracting from any portion of that solemnity and solid worth which necessarily form the basis of its several Degrees...
